Vertical and Horizontal Relationships of the Believer

I love watching movies for one purpose: to understand the vertical relationships humans have with each other. As beings with the Christ nature in us, we maintain two forms of relationships, the first, vertical: is the interpersonal relationship we share with other humans; the second, horizontal: is the divine relationship we share with the Father.

Humans are the most complex class of beings in the universe. The only person in the divine order that understands humans is Jesus, and Paul, by the Spirit, called him the perfect high priest. Not even our Father understands what it means to relate to three realms simultaneously or even put on the flesh we have, only Jesus does, and it is the reason He could also advocate well for us. We are the highest of His creations. It is a burden to wear the physical body made of this earth and to walk in divine order and glory, it is the reason this body and this earth will be done away with, and we will have a new realm of the earth which will come down from heaven itself, and we will have a new body, a spiritual body, as Paul the Apostle called it. That body will fit into that world, and the groaning we experience in this physical body will stop. By that time, we would have experienced perfection and love in all their glory. But before that world comes, we must keep learning about the vertical relationship and Christ nature and develop the intelligence to relate between them. The vertical relationship is important to our living here on earth till God calls us home. Master both, but never allow human nature with its prejudice and bias to have a place in your vertical relationship. Master your horizontal relationship and influence your world with it. Deal with human nature’s mindset and never allow it to be an obstacle in fulfilling your destiny.

However, one thing must characterize our vertical relationship, which is what we import from our horizontal relationship, they are love, patience, faith, peace and joy.
